Veratify grounds its verdicts in major wire services and national outlets, government and official primary sources, court records, official statistics, and peer-reviewed work.
It does not base a verdict on blogs, forums, social posts, content-farm pages, or anonymous sources, even when those appear in search results.
Where established fact-checkers have already examined a claim, Veratify takes their finding into account.
Rulings are conclusions Veratify can support.

| Credible | The claim is well-supported by authoritative sources. |
| Partially True | A real true element, but the claim also gets something materially wrong. The restatement carries both halves. |
| Likely False | The claim’s central assertion is contradicted by the evidence. |
| Contested | Credible, independent sources genuinely disagree, and the dispute can’t be settled on the available evidence. Veratify reports the disagreement rather than picking a side. |
Sometimes the honest answer is “I can’t rule on this.”
A decline is not an error, and it does not mean a claim is false.
It means a confident, evidence-based ruling is not possible.

It declines to engage with content that traffics in slurs or targets people for who they are, rather than evaluating a factual claim.
